Township Board Prepares For 2017
Turkey Creek Township Advisory Board Monday, Dec. 12, took several steps to prepare for next year’s operations.
Township Trustee Barb Griffith presented a resolution to encumber $20,800 for continued cemetery remediation in 2017. Renovation of three of the township’s six cemeteries has been completed, and work on the fourth cemetery will begin in the spring.
The resolution passed unanimously.
The board also discussed nominating an individual to serve as the fire territory board’s fifth member.
The board voted to ask Steve Snyder and Cindy Taylor and, contingent upon their interest in serving, recommend one of their names to the Syracuse Town Council, which must approve the nomination.
The board will submit the nomination in time for the council’s Tuesday, Dec. 20, meeting.
The new member will begin a one-year term Jan. 1.
The board unanimously elected Dennis Darr and Kimberly Cates to continue serving on the Turkey Creek Fire Board.
Griffith requested the appointment of a substitute trustee to serve in the event of her absence or incapacity.
She said she would draft a resolution nominating Patricia Replogle for consideration at the January board meeting.
The substitute would step in to fulfill Griffith’s duties as needed and Dennis Darr, township advisory board president, would sign any checks necessary during Griffith’s absence.
Griffith presented the year-to-date budget figures. No extraordinary expenses were reported in November except for an obligatory $86,519.69 disbursement to the fire territory.
In November, the township paid the following funds in poor relief:
• Rent, $740 to six landlords
• Utilities, $1,035.80
• Food, $74.92
Year-to-date, the township has paid $29,870.08 in poor relief — $7,198.12 for rent, $21,558.59 for utilities, $216.52 for pharmaceuticals and $896.85 for food.
Other November expenditures included $1,540.11 in wages, $1,440 for legal services, $235.96 for mileage reimbursement, a $180 insurance premium payment and minor disbursements for office supplies and a credit card payment.
The board will next meet at 7:15 p.m. Monday, Jan. 9, at Syracuse Town Hall.
