Police ID Driver Killed In Collision With South Shore Train
MICHIGAN CITY — One person is dead after a vehicle was struck by a westbound South Shore Train Wednesday morning.
The Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District says a red Nissan Sentra was travelling northbound on Pleasant Avenue in Michigan City when it was struck by South Shore Train 108.
According to the engineer, warning lights at the intersection were activated. The driver was struck when she attempted to cross the tracks.
The vehicle was pushed from the Pleasant Avenue crossroad for a few hundred feet to Helen Street. There was one person in the vehicle, and that person has died.
Later Wednesday morning, the victim was identified as 37-year-old Crystal Green of Michigan City.
NICTD says westbound service for Train 108 and all following trains has resumed, though they are running more than 60 minutes behind schedule. They advise passengers to be at departing stations anyway in case delays are shorter than expected.
