Warsaw Swimming: Tigers Pick Up Wins Over Panthers
WARSAW — It was a great night in the pool for the Warsaw swimmers and divers. Both the girls and boys teams dominated NorthWood in Northern Lakes Conference action Thursday night. The boys team cruised to a 143-25 victory while the girls were not far behind with a 124-60 decision.
In the boys meet it was all Warsaw from start to finish. The boys took the top two spots in every event except for diving.
Warsaw began its evening with a win in the in the 200 medley relay. The Tigers medley team of Nick Zogbi, Grant Knight, Hudson Snyder and Zach LaLonde posted a first place time of 1:46.70. That same foursome would combine to win the 400 free relay with a time of 3:33.43. Trent Rapp, Evan Borchers, Ian Deming and Alex Cook combined to win the 200 free relay with their final time of 1:36.06. NorthWood did not have a relay team compete in Thursday’s meet.
Borchers was tops in the 200 free with a time of 1:55.23 and 100 fly at 57.13. Knight was a double winner as well, swimming a 2:11.43 to win the 200 IM and later coming back to win the 100 breast with a 1:02.93. Cook swam a 23.60 to take first in the 50 free and would later win the 100 free with a time of 53.24. Zogbi had the top time in the 100 back at 58.15 and Snyder would outlast everyone in the 500 free with his time of 5:16.78.
Cameron Bowell posted a 134.30 to win the diving portion of the meet. That score edged out the 131.90 from NorthWood’s Caden Jenkins. Dyllin Hochstetler of NorthWod took third with a 112.05.
In the girls meet there was slightly more intrigue, but it would still end up being a convincing win for the Tigers. Warsaw won ten events on the night to create the big win.
The lone events won by NorthWood were diving and the 200 free. Kate Jarvis started the night out with a win for the Panthers, swimming a 2:10.71 in the 200 free, edging out Warsaw’s Lauren Kuhl (2:12.18). Laura Schrock won the diving portion of the meet for the Panthers with a score of 175.20. The Panthers would grab the next two spots as well with Kaitlin Eby (120.10) and Betsy Nunemaker (118.30. Warsaw’s top diver was Shelby Paseka (117.35). The rest of the meet was all Warsaw.
Delaney Wihebrink did her part by winning both the 200 IM (2:19.55) and 100 breast (1:10.40). Olivia Herman joined Wihebrink as a double winner with first place finishes in the 50 free (26.56) and 100 free (58.71). Taylor Gunter (1:06.30) won the 100 fly. Kuhl was first in the 500 free (5:58.24). Audrey Curson was tops in the 100 back with her time of 1:16.10. In all those events, NorthWood only managed to take second in one, the 100 fly with Jarvis (1:06.56).
Warsaw swept the relays. The 200 medley was won by Kuhl, Wihebrink, Curson and Laurel Moeller with a time of (2:05.55). Curson joined Makala Reed, Ella Knight and Dineli Prestegun to win the 200 free at 2:23.85. The 400 free was won by the team of Melissa Deming, Kuhl, Moeller and Wihebrink. NorthWood took second in each relay event.
Warsaw’s girls team is now 3-0, the boys move to 2-0. Both teams are 2-0 in the NLC. The Tigers host their annual invite this Saturday. NorthWood is now 2-2 in girls meets and 0-2 in boys meets. Both teams are 0-1 in the NLC. The Panthers swim Saturday at the Goshen Relays.
