Community Theatre to Hold Auditions for Spring Play
WARSAW — The Center Street Community Theatre announces plans for a Spring 2017 production of “The Curious Savage” by John Patrick. Performances are scheduled for Feb. 17, 18, 24, 25 and 26 at Wagon Wheel Center for the Arts. The show will be directed by Melissa Jordan. Performances start at 7:30 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, and the organization has added a Sunday matinee at 2 p.m. the second weekend. Cost will be $12 per ticket.
Auditions will be held November 28 and 29, with call-backs on December 1 , from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the basement fellowship hall of Warsaw First United Methodist Church.
The cast of “The Curious Savage” will include five males with ages ranging from 20-60 and six females with ages ranging from 20-75. Audition format will be a cold reading, in which participants read directly from the script, rather than preparing monologues. The organization asks that cast hopefuls come with their schedules of conflicts starting December 5 until the show ends. Those attending should also understand that this is an ensemble show and will require everyone to be at most rehearsals, a potential schedule will be announced at the auditions.
First produced in 1950, “The Curious Savage” is a gentle satire and heartwarming comedy, according to the organization. Mrs. Ethel Savage has inherited $10 million from her late husband but her spoiled (adult) step-kids commit her to The Cloisters, a sanatorium, in an attempt to get their hands on the fortune which Savage has hidden. While at The Cloisters, Mrs. Savage meets the other residents who each have issues of their own but their kindness, when contrasted against the Savage children leaves us wondering who the sane ones really are.
The Center Street Community Theatre is under the Wagon Wheel Center for the Arts umbrella. The community theatre’s past productions include “You Can’t Take It With You,” “Almost Maine,” “M*A*S*H,” “The Foreigner” and “Over the River and Through the Woods.” Those who are interested in acting are invited to join the theatre for auditions. Opportunities this year have expanded to not only helping back stage and technically, but also by having community theatre members ushering and helping with concessions. Please consider joining the group at their open community meeting for more information at 7 p.m. on Dec. 5, at Wagon Wheel Center For The Arts.
