Ada M. Van Deman
Ada M. Van Deman, 98, Columbia City, passed away at 1:10 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, 2016 at Miller’s Merry Manor where she had been a resident since April 2016.
She was born Sept. 13, 1918 in Churubusco, a daughter of James and Golda (Marggart) Lock. She completed her education at Churubusco High School.
On Oct. 20, 1934 she was united in marriage to Charles H. VanDeman. They always made their home in the Columbia City area. Mr. Van Deman died April 13, 1994.
Ada worked for Weatherhead/Dana for 35 years, retiring in June 1980.
She was a member of St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church.
Surviving relatives include three daughters: Phyllis (Richard) Wolfe, Karen (Eugene) Heckman and Charlene Adams, all of Columbia City; nine grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; two great great grandsons; numerous step great grandchildren and step great great grandchildren; a sister, Helen Groves of Columbia City; and a brother, Eugene Lock of Albion.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Mary Ann Van Deman; a step great- great grandson; an infant sister; and three brothers, Norbert Lock, Paul Lock and Arthur Lock.
The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 2 at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. The burial will be in the Catholic Cemetery. The visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Preferred memorials are to St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church or Gideons.
