Cross Country
Whitko didn’t get a team out of the Fort Wayne Northrop Cross Country Sectional Saturday morning, but does have one runner continuing her postseason.
Senior Hanna Yohe qualified as the 10th and final individual to advance to next weekend’s West Noble Regional after running a 21:29, 13 seconds clear of the next individual. The next Wildcat across the line was Sarah Walters at 22:39.
Amanda Leppek at 24:27, Manon Sonneville at 26:44, Elizabeth Foutz at 27:32 and Angelica Moyer at 28:45 rounded out the Whitko times at Northrop, to which the team placed 11th out of 11 teams.
Fort Wayne Carroll placed four runners in the top six places to romp to the team title, followed by advancers from Homestead, Dwenger, Columbia City and Concordia. Carroll’s Abigail Green was the overall winner of the race at 18:22.
In the boys race, Whitko had just four runners, ineligible to qualify in the team standings. Logan Busz at 19:09 and Zack Freel at 19:29 were the top two Wildcats. Ezra Miller at 20:36 and Caden Compton at 24:21 completed the Whitko totals.
Volleyball
West Noble emerged from the masses Saturday to lay claim to the Whitko Volleyball Invite championship. The Chargers beat DeKalb, Whitko and Prairie Heights in pool play then knocked off Heritage in two games for the title.
Kaylie Warble led West Noble in the championship run with 14 kills while Maddie Schermerhorn added 10 kills and seven digs. Nina Teel set up 29 points.
Individual numbers for Whitko were not immediately provided from the tournament.
Whitko closes out its regular season Monday at Central Noble.
