Local Clubs Perform Well At Dunes Tourneys
ROLLING PRAIRIE – Tippecanoe Valley and Triton split its four varsity games at the Dunes Tourney, hosted by St. Joe Saturday afternoon.
Tippy (17-9) beat Michigan City Marquette 25-20, 25-16 and South Bend Clay 25-10, 25-11 while falling to eventual tournament champion Mishawaka Marian 25-20, 25-10 and Goshen 25-17, 25-19. The Vikings did not provide individual statistics.
Triton (16-10) defeated Wheeler 23-25, 25-21, 15-10 and North Judson 16-25, 25-21, 25-10 before losing to Michigan City 25-12, 25-17 and Andrean 25-21, 25-13. Nicole Sechrist was named to the All-Tournament Team after posting 33 kills on the day. Hannah Wanemacher added 58 assists and Quinn Downing had 22 digs.
Marian defeated Michigan City for the championship.
Warsaw (20-3) competed in the JV Dunes tournament, taking second place out of 18 teams. The Tigers beat Triton 25-5, 25-9, Marquette 25-7, 25-5, Tippecanoe Valley 25-12, 25-14 and lost to St. Joe in the title game 25-17, 25-18.
Stat leaders for the Tigers were Alicia Sikora with 25 assists, 13 digs and nine aces, Gabby Hamill with 17 digs and three aces, Courtney Chookie with 12 kills, 10 digs and nine aces, and McKenna Hawblitzel with 16 aces, 11 digs and four kills. Addie Dickerhoff added 25 assists and 12 kills.
The Warsaw freshman volleyball team (26-1) also participated in the JV Invitational, going 3-1 on the day. Warsaw topped Buchanan JV 25-5, 25-19; lost to St. Joe JV 14-25, 24-25; beat Andrean JV 25-12, 25-24; and beat St. Joe freshman 25-14, 25-14; earning an overall fifth place out of 18 teams.
Katie Schmidt led the club with 57 assists, 19 assists and 25 digs, Allie Mcguire added 48 digs, Brooklyn Slone had 16 kills and Kaia Hummitch had five blocks.
Tippecanoe Valley beat St. Joe 25-15, 12-25, 15-13 and North Judson 25-22, 25-20 before losing to Warsaw and New Prairie 25-10, 25-2.
Triton defeated Michigan City Marquette 25-12, 25-8, lost to Warsaw and lost to St. Joe 23-25, 25-20, 9-15.
