Tennis All-NLC Has Plenty Of Local Flavor
GOSHEN – Warsaw’s two doubles team of Hayden Steger and Spencer Britton along with a trio of teammates were among the All-Northern Lakes Conference boys tennis award recipients.
Senior Steger and sophomore Britton won the No. 2 doubles title at the NLC championships last weekend, helping the Tigers to a runner-up finish in the team standings. The duo were automatic All-NLC with their performance at the tourney.
Warsaw also landed its No. 1 doubles team of seniors Justin Stout and Ryan Wettschurack as well as its No. 1 singles player Colton Lind on the Honorable Mention All-NLC list. Lind, a junior, finished fifth at the tournament and the doubles team third.
Warsaw as a team was second in the tournament and second in the team standings, trailing Concord in both regards in the regular season and tournament.
Concord’s No. 1 singles dynamo, Will Boyer, was the bracket champion and the lone recipient of All-NLC honors for the Minutemen, which were 7-0 in the regular season. Concord head coach Todd Denton was tabbed the NLC Coach of the Year.
Goshen, which tied Warsaw at 5-2 overall, had No. 3 singles champion Simon Myers and No. 1 doubles champion Logan Troyer and Bobby Sessa named All-NLC with No. 1 singles player Jacob Grewe Honorable Mention All-NLC.
Northridge’s Simon Grevengoed won the No. 2 singles bracket and was given the All-NLC nod, with No. 1 singles teammate James Dugle named At-Large All-NLC. Northridge finished in a tie with Plymouth at 4-3 in the standings.
The Pilgrims had both No. 1 singles John Gerard and No. 1 doubles Grant Clady and Nick Felke named At-Large All-NLC.
Wawasee (2-5) had No. 1 singles Dylan Staley named Honorable Mention All-NLC, and NorthWood (1-6) had No. 1 singles Jared Hoffman named Honorable Mention All-NLC. Elkhart Memorial (0-7) did not have a player named to the list.
