Vera F. Hurst, 87, New Paris, died at 2:04 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, 2016, at South Bend Memorial Hospital, where she had been a patient since Monday. She had a long battle with heart problems. She was born April 18, 1929, near Wakarusa to Henry and Pearl (Loucks) Morningstar. On Aug. 28, 1948, she married Franklin Hurst.
She lived her lifetime in this area. She was a farm wife. Vera enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, crocheting afghans and doilies. She enjoyed flowers, gardening and doing puzzles.
Surviving are her husband: Franklin; children: Larry (Sandra) Hurst, Syracuse; Linda (Doug) Robison, Millersburg; Keith (Denise) Hurst, New Paris; grandchildren: Lisa Price; Amanda Hurst; Kirk Robison; Jamie Robison; Braden Hurst; Alanna Sommers; Colton Hurst; Trenna Mitchell; 13 great-grandchildren; brother: Delbert Morningstar, Wakarusa. She was preceded in death by her parents; grandson: Ryan Denniston; brother: Mervin Morningstar.
Family and friends may call from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 18, at Thompson-Lengacher and Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee, and one hour prior to the 10:30 a.m. funeral service, Monday, Sept. 19, at Living Gospel Church, Nappanee. Pastor Mike Raasch and Dave Soliday will officiate. Burial will follow at Union Center Cemetery.
