Jackie D. Ulshafer
Jackie D. “Jack” Ulshafer, 76, South Whitley, died at 1:50 p.m. Monday, Sept. 12, 2016 at his home.
He was born Nov. 4, 1939 in South Whitley, a son of Edward Wayne and J. Eloise (Sweeney) Ulshafer Sr. He graduated from South Whitley High School in 1957.
On Oct. 26, 1960 he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. While living in Stockton, Calif., he married Kathleen Paseka on March 11, 1961. In 1965 they returned to Indiana. Jack was honorably discharged on Oct. 25, 1966. In August 1972 Jack and Kathy returned to South Whitley. Mrs. Ulshafer died February 13, 2009.
In 1968 Jack began his 30 year employment with ITT Aerospace, retiring on May 4, 1999. He actively participated in the ITT golf and bowling leagues.
He was a former member of American Legion Posts in Warsaw and Columbia City. He also thoroughly enjoyed following his grandchildren in their sporting events.
Surviving relatives include a daughter, Teresa (Rick) Cokl, South Whitley; eight grandchildren: Janelle (Nathan) Rhoades, Laura (Eric) English and KayLynn Keirn, Riley Cokl and Garrett Cokl, Gavin Ulshafer, Devin Ulshafer and Grayson Ulshafer, and their mother, Amanda; a great grandson, Luke; three brothers and a sister: Edward (Marilyn) Ulshafer Jr., Fort Wayne; Loretta (Ted) Easterday, Terry Ulshafer and Tom Ulshafer, all of South Whitley; and two sisters-in-law, Cindy Cole, Warsaw; and Phyllis Ulshafer of Augusta, Kan.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey Ulshafer; two daughters, Melissa “Missy” Ulshafer and Cynthia “Cindy” Ulshafer; and two brothers, Ben Ulshafer and Jim Ulshafer.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16 at Smith & Sons Miller Chapel, South Whitley with visitation from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday. The burial will be in South Whitley Cemetery with military honors presented. The visitation will also be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
