Exceptional Cardiovascular Care Earns 5th Consecutive Platinum Award for IU Health Goshen Hospital
GOSHEN — Cardiovascular patients receive a higher standard of care at IU Health Goshen Hospital than any other hospital in northern Indiana, according to the American College of Cardiology’s National Cardiovascular Data Registry (NCDR) ACTION Registry. The NCDR recognized IU Health Goshen Hospital with its Get With The Guidelines Platinum Performance Achievement Award for 2016. IU Health Goshen Hospital is one of 223 hospitals nationwide to receive the honor.
The award recognizes hospitals that consistently demonstrate excellence in heart attack care by delivering timely, appropriate, safe, and defect-free care.
“For the past six years IU Health Goshen Hospital has been the safest hospital in our region to provide heart attack care and our consecutive awards are evidence of excellence at what we do,” stated Ram Khattri Chettri MBA-HCM, MS, MATS, NP-C, RN, director of Heart and Vascular services, IU Health Goshen. “This award shows the many years of providing exceptional heart attack care and consistently delivering guideline-recommended treatments and therapies as a top 10 hospital in this country. We are the only hospital in the region to achieve this recognition by the American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association.”
IU Health Goshen Hospital has been awarded the platinum award for the fifth consecutive year. To receive the award, IU Health Goshen Hospital consistently followed treatment guidelines in the ACTION Registry–GWTG Premier for eight consecutive rolling quarters over six years and met a top decimal of hospitals in the country and the only one in the region.
A heart attack occurs when a blood clot in a coronary artery partially or completely blocks blood flow to the heart muscle. IU Health Goshen Hospital follows treatment guidelines that include:
- Administering aspirin upon arrival and discharge
- Prompt EKG testing
- Quick restoration of blood flow to the blocked artery
- Smoking cessation counseling
- Cardiac rehabilitation
- Medication changes and cholesterol monitoring
At IU Health Goshen Heart & Vascular Center, providers work in a collaborative approach to patient care. Cardiologists, together with Emergency Medical Services, Emergency Department physicians and Colleagues, and the cardiovascular lab operate as one team from first medical contact to coronary intervention.
