Warsaw Education Foundation Awards Red Apple Grants
WARSAW — The Warsaw Education Foundation recently awarded more than $6,500 in Red Apple Grant funds to five Warsaw Community Schools teachers.
Their students are beginning the 2016-2017 school year engaged in creating and experimenting in the arts and sciences, programming robots, studying local waterways, engineering design and modeling and creative writing.
Red Apple Grants are awarded to teachers for classroom materials and school-wide projects that advance enrichment opportunities, support innovative and inventive teaching and promote academic exploration.
Red Apple Grants awarded are:
Literacy
- Beth Walenga, Lincoln Elementary, “Kick-starting Writing With Legos,” $1,364.95
Science
- Emily Gough, Warsaw Community High School, “Environmental Science River Waders,” $1,244.75
- David Burden, WCS instructional coach, sparking education with a programmable robot, $1,349.98
Engineering
- Abbi Richcreek, Edgewood Middle School, “Girl Power in 3D Printing: Captivating Females in Engineering,” $1,500
Multi-academic
- Amanda Scroggs, Lakeview Middle School, “Full STEAM Ahead: Launching a Makerspace,” $1,322.01.
