Cubs Blow Lead, Eventually Win In 10 [VIDEO]
SOUTH BEND – South Bend watched a 9-2 fifth inning lead slip away, but the Cubs recovered to beat West Michigan, 11-10, in 10 innings Wednesday night at Four Winds Field.
Adonis Paula picked up the game-winning RBI on a line drive to right field, scoring Matt Rose to complete a two-run tenth inning after West Michigan took the lead with a run in the top of the inning.
Eddy Martinez tied the game in the tenth on an RBI double, plating Eloy Jimenez who had doubled earlier in the frame.
Jimenez hit a three-run home run in the fifth followed by a Rose solo shot, giving the Cubs to a 9-2 lead, which should have been plenty of cushion.
The Whitecaps scored the game’s next eight runs between the fifth and the tenth innings to grab a 10-9 advantage.
The South Bend series against West Michigan wraps up tonight at 7:05 p.m.
