Wawasee Sports Wrap: Aug. 18
Boys Soccer
The Wawasee boys soccer team played it way to a draw Thursday night. The Warriors tied South Bend Riley 2-2.
Zeb Glon and Ryan Edington each scored a goal for Wawasee. Glon now has two goals in as many games in 2016.
Wawasee (0-1-1) hosts a game Saturday morning.
Girls Golf
The girls golf team picked up a win Thursday night, shooting a 196. The host team, Westview, shot a 248.
Aubrey Schmeltz and Madison Beaman each shot a 46 for Wawasee. Zoe White impressed with a 49. Jadison Rostochak (55), Lesley Tayagua (58) and Valerie Haessig (72) rounded out Wawasee’s scores.
Wawasee now sits at 6-3 on the season and will compete in the Rochster Invite Saturday.
Volleyball
The Wawasee volleyball team fell to 0-2 Thursday evening with a loss at Fairfield. The host Falcons won the match 3-1.
Wawasee was led statistically by Madie Wilson’s 26 kills. Liz Hardy added five kills and four blocks. Olivia Clouse had four kills while Seaquinn Bright tallied 10 digs.
“This was another tough match to fall short in,” head coach Kayla Riportella stated. “My team played Fairfield’s roster tough and never settled on losing. We fought tooth and nail on that court tonight and if we continue to bring that attitude, we’ll come out on top soon.”
Wawasee plays at Lakeland on Monday.
Wawasee’s JV fell 2-0. Courtney Larson led the team with four blocks while Caitlin Wortinger led the team with eight digs.
