Wawasee Sports Wrap: Aug. 15
Girls Soccer
The Wawasee girls soccer team got its season started off the right way Monday evening. The Lady Warriors crushed Lakeland 7-2 in the season opener. Leigh-Ann Shrack led the scoring barrage for Wawasee with three goals. Meg Heinisch and Alyssa Bolyard were not far behind, each scoring a pair of goals in the rout of the Lakers.
Wawasee held a 5-0 lead before two quick goals from Lakeland late in the contest. Senior keeper Kayla White recorded 14 saves in the win.
“This was a great first game,” Wawasee coach Doug Heinisch said. “We had several stretches of solid play with just a few rough patches in between.”
Wawasee’s JV held a 1-0 lead until the final four minutes when Lakeland scored twice to earn a 2-1 win. Kaitlyn Graber had the goal for the JV squad while Libby Goralczyk recorded eight saves in goal.
Boys Tennis
The home boys tennis match with Manchester scheduled for Monday night was postponed until Tuesday evening.
