Artists Can Submit Proposals For Winona Lake Art
WINONA LAKE — Artists are now invited to submit proposals for one or more of the six new public art installations along the new Greenway Extension in Winona Lake. The deadline for submission of proposals is Saturday, Oct. 1, and the project is open to all practicing, professional artists residing in the U.S., although preference will be given to Indiana-based artists.
Submissions will be prescreened by the Winona Art Commission and a panel will decide the eventual winners, which will be sent to the Winona Town Council for approval on Dec. 20. Final design drawings will be approved in the spring of 2017, with completion and site installation to follow.
A bench, or possibly a swing, will be paired with each sculpture, along with a plaque describing the theme of the art piece. All installations will relate to the chosen theme of the history of the Town of Winona Lake. Donors wishing to sponsor artwork or benches are also welcomed.
The six themes detailed in the proposal document include Winona Lake/Eagle Lake; Tabernacle/Billy Sunday; The Winona Queen; Native Americans (Indians); Winona/Eagle Lake Hotel; and Chatauqua Programming. An eight-page Call for Artists’ Proposals is available which includes photos of each site and a map showing the six installation sites, which are currently marked with orange stakes located along the Greenway Extension trail.
