Sheriff’s Department Asks For Funding For 911iNet
KOSCIUSKO COUNTY — The Kosciusko County commissioners met yesterday, Tuesday, Aug. 9, to talk about making every second count.
1st Sgt Chad Hill requested funding from the commissioners for 911iNET, a program that has texting capabilities and a panic button option for smart phones. The program brings local police, fire departments, airports, emergency managers, mayor/county commissioners, courtrooms, and more, together, creating a true method of interoperability.
The county already has the basic system and the company who maintains that would do the enhanced version. Hill said the system would cost $4,000 annually to keep it going. Kosciusko County Commissioner President Ron Truex will be going to the sheriff’s department to see the program in action before making a decision.
In other business:
- Ed Rock, of the Kosciusko County Emergency Management Agency, asked for funding for upgrades to the 800 megahertz radios that is being required by the state of Indiana. Rock said there are about 185 radios that need upgraded at a “few hundred dollars” a radio. Rock suggested taking $29,600 from the general fund and have the county add the $5,000 for the upgrades.
