January’s Bus Garage Fire Appears To Be Electrical
WARSAW — “It appears to be an accidental fire, with probable cause of electrical in nature,” stated Warsaw-Wayne Fire Territory Fire Chief Michael Wilson on the continued investigation into the Jan. 7 fire of the Warsaw Community Schools bus garage. The fire destroyed the garage along with five buses and mechanical equipment.
Private fire investigators were called in to work with Warsaw-Wayne Fire Territory Fire Investigator Joe Fretz. “We are still awaiting a final determination from those private investigators,” said Wilson.
Wilson said some items of concern, electrical in nature, were removed from the building and taken back to a lab for further testing. “As of this month we still don’t have a final cause, as to the ignition point of the fire that consumed the bus garage,” he said.
He stated the area of concern was an area separation wall between the mechanical area and the office space of the garage. “All the fire started on the mechanical side of the wall.” Additionally he addressed speculation or the possibility of arson. “At this time with the alarm system and witness information, we feel the building was secure. The fire originated at the time the building was secure, there doesn’t appear to be any illegal events, any strange activity.”
