Barbee Property Owners To Host Poker Paddle
WARSAW — Barbee Lakes Property Owner’s Association will host a seven-card study poker paddle fudnraiser from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 6. Participants are asked to arrive at 9 a.m. to pay their entrance fee, sign the release/waiver of responsibility and have an opportunity to learn about and/or join the BLPOA. In case of rain, the event will be moved to Sunday, Aug. 7 and a notification will be posted on the BLPOA’s website.
Participants must be age 18 or older and the maximum number if participants is 120. The event benefits BLPOA and there is a chance for participants to win prizes.
The poker paddle begins by EMS B70 Lane on the north shore of Big Barbee, at the vacant lot just to the left of the bridge leading into Little Barbee.
The following boats are allowable:
- Kayak or double kayak
- Canoe
- Paddle board
Power boats will not be permitted.
Participants can come by land if not on the lakes already, or by kayak or canoe to the docking area, marked with a sign on the north shore of Big Barbee Lake. There will not be room for power boats to be docked in the area. Car parking will be available but limited, so participants are strongly encouraged to arrive by kayak if possible.
Participants will start in one of three groups led by a designated pontoon. The first group will be designated by a red flag , the second by a white flag and the third by a blue flag. Each group is limited to the first 40 kayaks or canoes.
The entrance fees, cash only and payable the day of event, are:
- $25 per non-BLPOA member participant
- $20 per BLPOA member participant
- $20 If for an additional hand
The event will take approximately three hours, touring through the Barbee Chain of lakes and ending at the Barbee Hotel. Each participant will receive six card draws, one for each lake. The tour will end at the Barbee Hotel for lunch, on participants’ own. During lunch, winning hands will be tallied by each group’s boat “captain.”
Each “dining” participant will receive a special number by a hotel staff member for an additional drawing at the end of the lunch.Winners will be announced in the following categories:
- Highest poker hand, 20 percent of the net proceeds
- Lowest poker hand, 10 percent of the net proceeds
- Special drawing, provided by the Barbee Hotel
Ties will be decided with a high-card draw. Each ” boat captain” will keep the “official record” of each hand. A duplicate card draw means another card will be drawn in its place. For those who purchase extra hands, cards may not be interchanged between hands.
