Greene Jr. On Point Again
GRAND CHUTE, Wisc. – The TinCaps lost to the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (Milwaukee Brewers) on Friday night, 8-7, at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium.
Fort Wayne (9-19, 45-53) rallied in the late innings with a run in the eighth and three in the ninth, but a four-run hole proved to be too deep.
Wisconsin (15-13, 49-49) initially took a 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the home first. The TinCaps answered back with two of their own in the second to tie the game, 2-2.
Marcus Greene Jr. led Fort Wayne’s offense for a second night in a row with another three-hit game, including a solo home run for a second straight game. His long ball in the second, plus a run that later scored on a wild pitch, tied the game.
The TinCaps jumped in front, 3-2, with a run in the fifth on a sacrifice fly from second baseman Peter Van Gansen. The Rattlers, however, responded with a five-run frame in the bottom of the fifth to lead, 7-3.
Greene Jr., who was the DH, brought Fort Wayne a run closer in the eighth with an RBI single, but again Wisconsin matched it with a run in the bottom half.
In the ninth, the TinCaps scored one run on an error, another with a sac fly by catcher Austin Allen, and one on a Greene Jr. RBI single with two outs. But the rally fell short.
Zack Brown (W, 1-1), who pitched the fourth through the seventh for the T-Rats, got credit for the win. On the other side was Fort Wayne reliever David Bednar (L, 0-2), who pitched in the fourth and fifth. Nate Griep (S, 15) stranded the bases loaded and then made things interesting in the ninth for a four-out save.
Next up for the TinCaps is a game Saturday at Beloit, an 8 p.m. start.
