William V. Burton
William V. Burton, 83, Ligonier, died at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday, July 19, 2016 at his home.
He was born Oct. 21, 1932 in Eolia, Ky., a son of Ira and Minnie Belle (Bowman) Burton. His formative years were spent in Eolia where he worked in the coal mines.
On May 12, 1956 he was united in marriage to Dorothy D. Sheckler. They always made their home in Columbia City until 2000 when they moved to their present home in rural Ligonier.
Bill worked for Holmes Lumber Company for 42 years.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Dorothy; six children: Sandra Nichols of Columbia City; William A. Burton of South Whitley; Peggy Houser of Albion; Carol (Rodney) Boggess of Wolf Lake; Barbara (Larry) Smith of Columbia City; and Janet (Paul) Stephens of Pierceton; eight grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; a brother, John Burton of Columbia City; and a sister, Elsie Sturgill of Eolia, Ky.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Winston Burton; and three sisters, Anna Mae Mullins, Bernice Gentry and Mary Alice Harshbarger.
A private family visitation will be held at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. Burial will take place at a later date at Stough Cemetery.
