Badly Injured 3-Month-Old Baby Hospitalized; Babysitter Investigated
ELKHART COUNTY — A horrifying case of alleged child abuse by a babysitter is being investigated in Elkhart County.
Officers were called Tuesday, July 19, to the emergency room of Elkhart General Hospital after a badly-injured 3-month-old was brought in.
According to police, the child suffered from two broken legs, a broken arm, and shaken baby syndrome.
The child’s mother told police that the injuries were inflicted by one of the child’s babysitters at a home on the 54000 block of Ash Road.
Elkhart County investigators are working with the Department of Child Services to figure out what happened. No arrests have been made, and police have not released the names of the suspects.
WNDU spoke with police on Wednesday afternoon, and spoke with Captain Jim Bradberry from the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department. He told the news center that detectives are still working the case, and he didn’t believe there would be any new developments Wednesday.
