INDIANAPOLIS – The reputation Indiana has as a sports Mecca has become a global brand. The state is considered one of the nation’s premier sports states, claiming a wide range of incredible amateur and professional sports stories. Indiana has hosted major sporting events, and serves as headquarters to multiple national governing bodies. Sports in Indiana have become folklore for generations of fans throughout the world.
As the state enters its 200th anniversary in 2016, a special project is underway to celebrate and recognize the Greatest Sports Stories in the History of Indiana. Sportswriters and broadcasters across Indiana have weighed in on a history-making documentary by voting their favorite top 25 sports stories of all time. The Greatest Sports Stories in the History of Indiana is a thoughtful reflection of why Indiana is, and will always be, of one of the most loyal fan bases in all of sport.
The top 25 list was released on Network Indiana radio and social media July 14, with the anticipated book to be released this November. A podcast of the 25 stories broken down by some of the broadcasters and participants can be heard on 1070 The Fan’s podcast.
