Another Huge Crowd, Another Tough Loss [VIDEO]
FORT WAYNE – Brad Zunica and Carlos Belen each drove in a run, but the TinCaps came up short against the Quad Cities River Bandits, 4-2, on Thursday night at Parkview Field before a crowd of 8,735 – the sixth-largest in ballpark history.
During the fourth inning, both players recorded their 43rd RBIs of the season to help Fort Wayne (45-46, 9-12) even the score at two runs apiece.
Quad Cities (42-48, 11-10) struck first, plating a pair of runs in the second frame. Hector Roa hit a leadoff home run. Pat Porter doubled and came around on an Anthony Hermelyn single.
The River Bandits edged ahead during the fifth. Hermelyn scored on a Thomas Dorminy (L, 2-3) wild pitch. Dorminy ended his outing with three runs allowed and three strikeouts over five innings.
J.C. Cosme worked a pair of scoreless frames for Fort Wayne before Jose Castillo surrendered an insurance run during the eighth. Connor Goedert’s RBI single brought home Kristian Trompiz.
The TinCaps threatened in the bottom of the ninth, but Ralph Garza (S, 6) closed the door after relieving Justin Ferrell (H, 1).
Fort Wayne will attempt to snatch the rubber match of the three-game series on Friday night at Parkview Field.
The series resumes Friday night at 7:05 p.m.
