Pierceton Talks Training, Budgets And Ordinances
PIERCETON — The Pierceton town council met on Monday, July 11, to discuss training, budgets, resolutions and ordinances.
Midwest Roll Forming had their first read of a resolution to approve a tax abatement at the last meeting on June 13. It was tabled until tonight’s meeting. The council approved the resolution.
Town Marshal Tim Sammons and Officer Jim Bumbaugh will being will be attending a law summit in Indianapolis. The identify deception training will be given by LifeLock. The training is free. The council approved paying for food and lodging for the duration of the training, which will Sept. 12-13.
Sammons also discussed the golf cart ordinance, which states a golf cart must be driven by a licensed driver who has insurance. The passengers can be as many as the manufactured seats will hold. Headlights are not required, but if there are no lights it cannot only be driven from dawn to dusk.
Fire Chief Gordon Baker presented June’s fire/rescue program reports. Fire and first responder runs were 8 in town, 22 in township, making a total of 33 runs and a total of 212 runs year to date.
The 150th anniversary of Pierceton will be Aug. 26-28. Some events presented by the town on Friday, Aug. 26 will be: 6 p.m. opening ceremonies, 7 p.m. beer tent by Sleepy Owl and community square dancing.
On Saturday, Aug. 27, presented by the Pierceton Chamber of Commerce will be: 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Heirloom Tomato Festival at Brower Park, 4 p.m. car display at the American Legion, 6 p.m. Inside Out, a free family movie, will be shown at Pierceton Elementary School and at 8 p.m. Manchester Civic Band at Township Park.
The local churches will sponsor the following activities on Sunday, Aug. 28, and will take place at Township Park: 10 a.m. worship service, at noon a free community meal, 1 p.m. free family games and at 3 p.m. the closing ceremony with the burying of a time capsule.
In other business:
- The council introduced an ordinance to make the sewage and water bills a landlord’s responsibility. It will be voted on in the next meeting.
- Baker told the council on July 27, the fire department would be doing table top exercises.
- Clerk/Treasurer Jerry Kreger told the council there will be a preliminary budget meeting at 5:30, Thursday, July 14.
- Baker asked the council to keep in mind, for the budget, the cost of physicals for anyone in the department who uses an air pack. The cost is $40 for each person.
The next regular meeting for the Pierceton town council will be at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 8.
