Search Continues For Possible Drowning Victim
LEESBURG — The search is still on for a person believed to have drowned in Tippecanoe Lake.
Officers with the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department, Department of Natural Resources Conservation Officers and Indiana Search and Response team responded to the scene around 5:15 p.m. Friday, July 8. The search was called off after dark but resumed the next day As of today, Monday, July 11, there have been no reports that the victim has been found.
Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department Sergeant Chad Hill noted the lake is deep and, in some spots, could reach a depth of more than 100 feet. This, he added, could create safety hazards for divers.
“That’s impeded some of the search ability for the divers,” he said. “Obviously, there’s a safety issue involved; there are areas where, I’m not sure they can register how deep Tippy Lake really is.”
The original search radius was 40 to 50 feet out from the spot where the victim was last seen, however divers were unsuccessful.
According to officers on the scene, the search will continue from 6:30 a.m. to sunset daily until the body is found. The search effort has been switched to a surface search, using canines to help locate the body.
