Showcase Event Features Local Stars
INDIANAPOLIS – The 14th annual IBCA/IHSAA Underclass Showcase events have been set for July 12-13 at Ben Davis High School in Indianapolis.
Staged by the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association with support from the Indiana High School Athletic Association, the Underclass Showcase events are designed to give exposure to approximately 200 of the top basketball prospects (about 100 boys and about 100 girls) from across the state to colleges across the state and nation.
The 2016 Girls’ Showcase will be on Tuesday, July 12. Activity will run from 2-8 p.m. The 2016 Boys’ Showcase will be on Wednesday, July 13. Activity will run from 3-9 p.m.
The showcase events are NCAA certified for 2016, meaning college coaches from all levels (NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, NAIA and NJCAA) may attend to evaluate the participants.
The showcase events are open to the public. Admission is $5 per person per day. IBCA-member coaches will be admitted at no charge by showing their IBCA membership card.
Listed among the participants are nearly two dozen area players. Included on the boys rosters are Kyle Mangas of Warsaw, Nate Walpole of Whitko, NorthWood’s Luke Morrison and Luke Zurcher, Northridge’s Luke Morrison, Plymouth’s Nick Felke, Penn’s Noah Applegate, Southwood’s Carson Blair, South Bend Adams’ Walter Ellis, Northfield’s Cody Holmes, Manchester’s David McAtee and Fremont’s Wade Regadanz. On the girls roster includes Warsaw’s Dayton Groninger, Whitko’s Aly Reiff, NorthWood’s Taitlyn Trenshaw, Plymouth’s Nicole Horvath, DeKalb’s Leigha Brown, Penn’s Sara Doi, Argos’ Courtney Dunlap, Central Noble’s Sydney Freeman and South Central (Union Mills) Olivia Tolmen.
Among the area coaches helping with the showcase is Al Rhodes of Penn, Michelle Harter of Warsaw, Rick Budka of South Central (Union Mills), Will Coatie of Elkhart Central, Gina Heirlmeier of Mishawaka Marian and Doug Springer of Northridge.
