Ida May Grossman
Ida May Grossman, 88, formerly of rural Urbana, worshiped her Heavenly Father in His presence and with a new body at 5:55 a.m. Sunday, June 19, 2016. She was born April 2, 1928, in Ellingson, S.D. to Celia M. and Beatrice (Gooding) Smith.
Ida May graduated from Monument City High School in 1945 and attended Manchester College. She married William N. Grossman in Huntington County, on Sept. 14, 1947; he died March 1, 2011. She spent her life helping on the farm and serving others. She loved to cook and host family and friends. Ida May was a member of the North Manchester Missionary Church and the Extension Homemakers. She was named the Farm Bureau Farm Wife of the Year. God blessed Ida May with a beautiful voice, and she sang with the Jubilaires Quartet for many years. She lived at Timbercrest since 2012.
She is survived by six children: Becky (Dean) Benz, North Manchester; Tim (Karen) Grossman, Annapolis, Md.; Rod (Sheila D.) Grossman, New Paris; Randy (Bonnie) Grossman, North Manchester; Rex (Sheila M.) Grossman, Urbana; and Rachel (Todd) Hoppes, Wabash; 21 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; four brothers: Gordon Smith, Warren; Curtis (Dee) Smith, Fort Wayne; Paul (Doris) Smith, Morenci, Mich.; and Edgar (Debi) Smith, Lagro; and three sisters: Celia Shankster, Laketon; Rosemary (Melvin) Royer, Sanford, Fla.; and Harriet (Jon) Askew, Mesa, Ariz. She was also preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; and three sisters.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, June 24, at North Manchester Missionary Church, North Manchester, with Pastor Dan Binkley officiating. Burial will be in Hopewell Cemetery, Lagro. Friends may call 2-8 p.m. Thursday, June 23, at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, Wabash, and one hour prior to the service Friday at the church.
Preferred memorial is the Friends of Timbercrest.
