Indiana Closes Out Sweep Of Kentucky
LOUISVILLE – Indiana finished up a fine all-star run this June, completing the sweep of Kentucky in the boys and girls basketball all-star games between the two states. Sunday’s games had the Indiana All-Star boys hold on for a 99-96 win while the Indiana All-Star girls again blew out Kentucky 81-62.
Having beaten Kentucky in both games by a sizable margin Saturday in Indianapolis, the Kentucky boys closed the gap Sunday. Mason Faulkner scored 21 points and Carson Williams had 19 points and nine assists for Kentucky. Quentin Goodin and Alex Cook both finished with 14 points for Kentucky. The quartet scored just 47 points in the game at Banker’s Life Fieldhouse.
Eugene German, who led the state of Indiana in scoring this season for Gary 21st Century, had the hot hand for Indiana. The shifty guard pumped in 34 points and added six rebounds and four assists. Desmond Bane added 25 points and four assists for Indiana, which played without Kyle Guy and CJ Walker, who combined for 28 points and 10 assists in Saturday’s game.
In the girls game, Jackie Young made her farewell from high school hoops with 22 more points. The state’s all-time leading scorer – girl or boy – also chipped in seven rebounds, four assists, three steals and a block in 31 minutes. Young will play at Notre Dame in the fall.
