Barbee Lakes To Hold First Flotilla
KOSCIUSKO COUNTY — The Barbee Lakes will have their first-ever flotilla Sunday, July 3. The event includes prize money for the three winning entries.
Organized by the Barbee Lakes Property Owners Association, the flotilla will launch in three locations in order to minimize bridge passages and maximize participation.
The theme is “Favorite Sports.”
Barbee chain property owners are invited to come by motorized boats of all kinds. Decorate your pontoon, speedboat or fishing boat to celebrate the sport, team or athlete of your choosing.
Registration is required but free. Forms are available online in advance at barbeelakes.org.
Bring your form or pick one up when you arrive to register at one of the three starting points at 12:30 p.m. July 3.
The flotilla will start at 1:30 p.m. All entries will receive a number to display on their boat. There will be lead pontoons with captains for each group to follow through the lakes.
One group will start and end in Kuhn Lake at the Christian Camp pier. They will proceed into Big Barbee, going counterclockwise around the lake, then return to Kuhn and travel counterclockwise back to the camp.
A second group will start and finish in Little Barbee at the Barbee Hotel pier. They will proceed around the right side of the lake, through the channel into Irish Lake, around it counterclockwise, then back through the channel and to the hotel pier.
A third group will start and end in Sechrist Lake at the northwest corner bank (the Dave Doctor property, 93 EMS B42E). They will go through the channel into Sawmill Lake, travel counterclockwise around it, then back through the channel and counterclockwise around Sechrist to the starting point.
Judges will determine the best decorated boat on each route, and each winner will receive a $100 award. One of the three will then be selected as the grand prize winner, to receive a $200 award.
