Betty Joan Stansbery
Betty Joan Stansbery, 89, formerly of South Whitley, died at 3 p.m. Tuesday, June 7, 2016, at Miller’s at Oak Pointe, Columbia City where she had been a resident since February 22.
She was born April 18, 1927 in South Whitley, a daughter of the late Gerald R. and Jennie (Williamson) Lancaster. She spent her formative years in South Whitley and completed her schooling at South Whitley High School.
On June 1, 1947, she was united in marriage to Richard F. Johnson. He died Aug. 6, 1980. In Jan. of 1989, she married Delbert E. Stansbery. He died May 9, 1996. With the exception of a few years in Tampa, Fla., she had always made her home in South Whitley.
Her work career included Blue Bell, Columbia City, Capehart Farnsworth and Magnavox, Fort Wayne, Chamberlin Products, South Whitley, Essex, North Manchester, the Tampa Bay Cigar Company, Tampa, Fla. and she ended her work career with Stumps/Shindigz in South Whitley.
She is survived by a sister, Kay (Larry) Lepley, Columbia City and three brothers, Robert (Norma) Lancaster and Larry “Butch” (Karen) Lancaster, both of South Whitley and Randall (Deanna) Lancaster, Henderson, NV.
She was preceded in death by brothers, Donnell, Gerald, Merritt, Dale, and Richard Lancaster and sisters, Geneva Myers, Rosetomasene Lancaster, Nancy Lancaster and Karen Corson.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at the South Whitley Cemetery, 7500 W State Road 14, South Whitley. Arrangements are by Smith & Sons Miller Chapel, South Whitley.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Cleveland Township Fire Department.
