John ‘Bud’ Richard Shear
John Richard Shear, better known as “Bud,” passed away on Friday, June 3, 2016 at 12:30 p.m. at Grace Village Healthcare in Winona Lake. He was in the loving presence of his family at the time of his passing.
Born on Dec. 28, 1928, he was the son of Marion E. and Elma A. (Eberly) Shear. He was born in Pierceton and graduated there from Pierceton High School in 1946.
Bud was married to Donna Roberts on May 15, 1948 in Columbia City in the home of Pastor Shearer. Together Bud and Donna made their home in Kosciusko County where they made many wonderful memories and shared 68 years together.
Bud had worked as an auto mechanic for a number of years and also as a truck driver, but it was working as a school bus driver which he found most rewarding. He especially enjoyed driving the Warsaw girls’ basketball team and he was sure to give them a hard time as he picked on them.
He had been a member of the Mizpah Shrine Temple, Fort Wayne and the Shrine Horse Patrol for nearly 30 years and had been a member of the Pierceton Masonic Lodge F. & A. M. 377 for more than 50 years. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and loved horseback riding.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife: Donna Shear, Warsaw; son and daughter-in-law: Steven and Michele Shear of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; daughter and son-in-law: Cathy and Dennis Lundgren, Warsaw; four grandsons: Christopher Aker, Warsaw; Michael (wife Jen) Shear, Naperville, Ill.; David (wife Sara) Shear, Franklin, Tenn.; and Adam Shear, Mishawaka; a granddaughter: Courtney (husband Troy) King, Warsaw; and eight great-grandchildren.
Preceding Bud in death were his parents: Marion and Elma Shear; a brother: Charles Shear and a sister: Helen Baxter.
Friends and family may gather for a time of visitation from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday, June 6 in Titus Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held in Oakwood Cemetery at a later date.
The family has asked that gifts in memory of Bud be directed to the Grace Village Retirement Community to support the Activities Department, 337 Grace Village Dr., Winona Lake, IN 46580.
