NORTH WEBSTER —Magic Man Jim Merrills returns to the North Webster Community Public Library as the opening show in the 2016 Summer Reading Program at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 8. Mr. Jim’s Magic Show will dazzle, amaze, and entertain as he challenges kids to be champion readers. Held in the North Webster Community Center Banquet Hall, this is a fun and interactive show the whole family will enjoy. Everyone is welcome. If your child is signed up for the Summer Reading Program, be sure they bring their Reading Passports to get stamped for extra credit toward prizes.
Registration is currently underway for the Summer Reading Program that runs June 1 through July 30. Kids from infant through high school earn prizes for every five hours of reading they complete. There is no registration deadline. They can sign up anytime throughout the program, but the sooner they get started the more opportunity they have to earn prizes. Stop by the Youth Services Desk to enroll.
Registrations are also being taken for Friday Family Food and Fun at 10:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. June 10. Children and their families learn about sports as they move through four stations of activities, crafts, and snacks. Since space is limited, registration is required to attend. Stop by the Youth Services Desk to sign up or call (574) 834-7122 ext. 202.
The next day from 1-2:30 p.m. Saturday, June 11, kids ages 5-12 get together for LEGO Club as they put their imaginations to work building with LEGOs. No registration is needed, and the library supplies the LEGOs. Children under age nine should be accompanied by an adult.
There will be some movin’ and a-groovin’ at 6 p.m. Thursday for “Let’s Move!”, the library’s new weekly dance/exercise program. It’s an informal time of dancing for fun and fitness. If you enjoy dancing for exercise, join us for a good time and a great workout. All adults are welcome.
Adults can exercise their creativity when they sign up for the Coffee and Canvas Workshop at 10:30 a.m. June 14. There are still some openings available. The cost is $18 and includes 11×14 canvas, painting supplies, and refreshments. Karla Hayden, artist and owner of the Happy Paint Brush, will show you how to paint a summer scene. The Circulation Desk will be accepting registrations and payment until June 10, so sign up early to reserve your spot.
If you love a mystery, stop by the “Check It Out” station near the Circulation Desk and play our Casino Jack Pot Contest. Throughout June and July, you will have weekly chances to guess who stole the casino money. New clues will be posted each week to lead you to the culprit, so stop by often to try your luck. The more guesses you make, the more chances to win.
