Traffic Commission Discuss Intersections
WARSAW — The Warsaw Traffic Commission met today, June 1, to discuss parking spaces, going paperless and roundabouts.
The traffic commission will have “BoardPaq Paperless Meetings” sometime later this year. Members of the traffic commission will have BoardPaq training after Captain Kip Shuter returns from leave.
Dana Hewitt, parking officer, discussed an issue at the intersection of Main Street and Indiana. A person making a left or crossing at the intersection on Indiana Street from Main Street has vehicles in parking spaces that could possibly block the sightline of oncoming traffic.
Ideas that were tossed around as a possible solution would be to remove two of the parking spaces, make a four-way stop or make it a right turn only. The board voted to wait until Shuter returned to work and could compile a two- to three-year crash data analysis.
A commission member brought up the traffic congestion on Detroit Street at Pope Street, which is near Warsaw Cut Glass. During the school year or at certain times of the day, it is difficult to make a left turn onto Pope Street or making a left from Pope onto Detroit Street. This issue will also wait for Shuter to return to duty and compile traffic counts for this area.
A citizen emailed the city planning office asking about a four-way stop at the intersection of Main and Bronson Street. There have been two crashes in the last two years, with one accident being someone who ran into the home on the corner of Bronson. Mayor Joe Thallemer asked for crash data for the last two years from all the cross streets from Sherman Street. The commission is going to have Shuter compile a crash data analysis report.
In other business:
- Construction on the CR 300N trail project will begin this year. The project will connect the Technical Park to Harrison Elementary and up to Sheldon Street.
- The commission talked of the improvements all along Husky Trail from the roundabout on Mariners Drive to the creation of a right-of-way on Flora Avenue for more optional access and exits for the school traffic.
- The commission is going to look into speed signage for the Husky Trail/Harrison School area.
The next regular scheduled meeting will be Monday, July 6.
