SOUTH BEND — The South Shore begins a major construction project Monday, and that will mean some schedule changes.

The work will upgrade railroad crossovers, which enable trains to crossover from one track to another.

Currently, trains are required to travel at 15 miles per hour when switching tracks. Officials say the upgrades would allow them to travel at 40 miles per hour, all while improving safety and efficiency.
