Wildcats Drop Tigers In DH
Kokomo didn’t allow Warsaw to make a lot of runs, literally, in a doubleheader Saturday in Howard County. Kokomo scorched Warsaw, 12-1 and 14-4, in baseball action.
Game one saw Kokomo post the dozen runs on 10 hits and three Warsaw errors. Warsaw managed just five hits, two of which came from Bryce Sensibaugh. In game two, Warsaw came up with just four hits while the Wildkats cranked across 11 more hits.
Taking the loss in each game were Braxton Tennant and Isaac Lenon.
The junior varsity from Warsaw hosted Fort Wayne Carroll Saturday. The Charger came away with two wins, 9-4 and 9-2. Derrick Backus and Brendan Perry each had two hits in each game for Warsaw, which is now 3-5-1 on the season.
Warsaw (4-5) will get back to work in the Northern Lakes Conference Monday in hosting NorthWood.
Valpo Silences Tiger Softball
Valparaiso pitching limited Warsaw to eight hits and no runs in two games, winning both games of the doubleheader 17-0 and 5-0 Saturday in the region.
Peyton Zahm threw a complete game, three-hitter in game one, and also had two hits and three RBIs at the dish. Hannah Walsh and Kennedy Minko both homered and drove in three each, and Lexi Burns added a two-run double and drove in three total runs.
Warsaw pitcher Courtney Chookie was touched up for nine runs and nine hits in just 2.1 innings.
In game two, Zahm was 3-for-3 with two RBIs with a pair of doubles. Maya Seifert added a triple and RBI for the Vikings. Emily Glover got the win, tossing a four-hit shutout with two strikeouts.
Abby Glass had two hits for Warsaw, including a double. Grace Johnson took the loss, giving up five runs in four innings.
Warsaw (2-8) will get back to NLC action Monday at NorthWood.
Tiger Boys Place Third At Southport
Warsaw took third place at the Southport Relays Saturday afternoon, scoring 90 points.
Among the top finishers for Warsaw was Owen Glogovsky in the 3,200 run, timing 9:32.49 in achieving a personal best in the event win. Dylan Childers set a personal best in the shot put, winning at 52-00, and was also eighth in the discus with a throw of 133-01. John Svinarich also sent a throw 44-03. Joseph Harness and Luke Wilson both cleared 6-0 for top marks, and the duo of Tommy Hickerson and Rane Kilburn led the long jump with measures of 20-05.5 and 20-00, respectively.
Ross Armey set a PR in the 110 hurdles with his 15.35, which was second overall and joined Kilburn, Brandon Reinholt and Will McGarvey to run a 43.42, runner-up time in the 4×100 relay.
Warsaw will run again Thursday in an NLC triangle at host NorthWood and against Plymouth.
Tigers Push The Limit At Southport
In the girls races at Southport, state runner-up Warren Central won the team championship with 110 points, but Warsaw pushed them to the limit with a 105 point total to tie for runners-up with Fishers. Warren is currently No. 1 in the state, Warsaw is No. 15 and Fishers No. 14. Pike, the defending state champions, was fourth and ranked No. 3 and Noblesville, ranked No. 9, were among the nine teams at the invite.
Leading off the meet, the 4×1600 team of Hannah Dawson, Anna Craig, Allison Miller and Mia Beckham not only ran away with the event title, they set the first of five meet records on the day by running 21:34.30, breaking the previous record by 14 seconds.
The 4×800 relay of Beckham, Craig, Miller and Kenzie Martz won the event with a season-best time of 9:39.90.
Abbi Curtis, Maykayla Clampitt, Samantha Alexander and Audrey Rich finished second it the 800 sprint medley relay at 1:48.80.
Beckham (11:39.98) and Miller (11:46.89) provided a one-two finish in the 3,200 and Alexander had the best long jump effort on the day (17-00) and teamed with Shunterra Davis to win the long jump relay.
Alexie Day and Morgan Bruner teamed up for a second place high jump relay finish.
Next up for the Lady Tigers is Senior Night on Tuesday in hosting Concord and NorthWood.
Tiger Golfers Among The Many At Lake Central
St. Louis U held off Honestead by a stroke, 312-313, to claim the title at The Palmira Cup hosted by Lake Central High School. Penn finished sixth at 335 and Warsaw was 10th at 345 among the 15 teams in the top flight field.
Sam Yeager led the Tigers with an 84, followed by Luke Johnson and Jacob LaLonde at 86 with Michael Jensen and Tommy Meier carding 89s. Luke Delp had a 91 and Chase Byron a 99 as Tiger alternates.
At the LaVille JV Invite, Marian won the tourney with a 349. Warsaw was sixth at 382, Wawasee seventh at 400, Triton eighth at 403, and Tippecanoe Valley 15th at 559.
Warsaw’s individual scores were led by Tim Rata’s 85. Robbie Sullivan had a 92, Trent Rapp shot 97, Cole Voss a 108 and Justus Voss a 135.
Warsaw and Triton will meet Wednesday at Rozella, a 4:30 p.m. first tee.
