National Library Week Is A Time To Transform
The theme for this year’s 48th annual National Library Week celebration is Libraries Transform. Think of spring and seeing butterflies after a winter spent in hibernation. The Syracuse Library offers a fresh start with amnesty. Any Syracuse materials that are returned from April 11-16 will have no overdue fines. This is a great opportunity for long overdue materials to come back to the library and to remove the fines. National Library Week is a great time to visit the Syracuse Library to get a free replacement for that old beat up Evergreen library card. Give an old card to get a new one if you need an upgrade.
A Fantastic Week
The middle of April is a normally busy time. Story times meet at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 11, and Tuesday, April 12. Children sing and hear stories along with enjoying social activities, such as making a healthy snack and creating a craft. What a good introduction to nursery rhymes.
Children who are reading books meet for a Wii-dance book club party at 5 p.m. Tuesday, April 12. Check with the library for future Wii activities. After school at 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 13, children can come to read a story and make a craft.
Adults meet at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday for the book club, One Book, One Hour, for a discussion of some of the stories and poems from the Kosciusko County community book read. This year’s book is “Great Tales and Poems of Edgar Allan Poe.”
Friday is a big reading night with the High Voltage Electricity show with Professor Steve. Everyone is welcome to come to the Wawasee High School gym for seating from 6:30-7 p.m Friday, April 15. Professor Steve will dazzle with explanations about electricity and electrical devices. The local libraries and PTOs want to remind everyone that reading for enjoyment is still learning.
Saturday, April 16, the final day of National Library Week, is the last chance to replace your old card for free and receive amnesty for books that are past due. Saturday is also the day for Lego Build. Many new sets have been added to the library’s collection so children are invited to come at 11 a.m. Saturday to put the bricks together.
All events are free and open to everyone. Reach the Syracuse Library at (574) 457-3022 for information.
