Marandet Cracks Top 60 List
INDIANAPOLIS – Warsaw senior guard Paul Marandet was one of 60 tabbed to join the Hooiser Basketball Magazine Top 60 workouts this weekend. Marandet was selected from a pool of approximately 1,600 senior players statewide. Warsaw head coach Doug Ogle was also chosen to help coach the event.
Marandet led Warsaw to the Class 4-A semi-state this season and closed out a remarkable career playing his best basketball for the Tigers. Marandet was second on the team in scoring this season at 13 points-per-game and led the Tigers in assists (3.9 per game) and free throw shooting (86 percent) and shot 52 percent from the field. Marandet also averaged 3.8 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game, while leading a defense that ranked second in the state in points-allowed-per-game at just 39.5.
His game against NorthWood, scoring a then-career high 23 points, helped Warsaw toward a Northern Lakes Conference title, then topped it with 55 points in the two regional games, where Marandet notched a now career-high 37 points in a double overtime win against South Bend Riley.
Marandet and teammate Kyle Mangas recently represented Warsaw at the McDonald’s Michiana All-Star game. Mangas was chosen as a Junior All-Star in March. Marandet and Mangas were also both honored by the IBCA as All-State selections.
Two sessions of the Top 60 Senior Workout will be hosted on Sunday, April 10, 2016, by Hoosier Basketball Magazine, in conjunction with the IHSAA and the IBCA, on the campus of Marian University in Indianapolis.
Boys primarily from Northern and Southern Indiana will participate in the first session (1-3 p.m. EST). The remaining players, mostly from Central Indiana, will compete during the second session (3:30-5:30 p.m. EST).
Coach Brent Chitty (Columbus East) will direct both sessions. Four other IBCA coaches – Chad Ballenger (Hamilton Heights), Matt Britton (Bloomfield) Brandon Hoffman (Silver Creek) and Doug Ogle (Warsaw) have been invited to assist with on court coaching.
Both sessions are open to the public for admission fee of $8 ($5 for students).
