Dorothy A. Osborn
Dorothy Anderson Osborn, 95, passed away peacefully on December 25, 2015, at the Catherine Kasper Life Center in Donaldson.
Born and raised in Dallas, Texas, Dorothy graduated from Sunset High School in 1937. She attended Hockaday College before transferring to Northwestern University in 1939, the year her parents moved to Hinsdale, Illinois. It was at Northwestern that she met her beloved husband and best friend for over 62 years, Robert L. Osborn. Settling in Bob’s home town of Culver, they raised four sons in their house on Forest Place, which remained Dorothy’s home until her 95th year.
Among her many interests, Dorothy was an avid sports fan who followed her favorite teams her entire life. She and Bob enjoyed attending the NCAA basketball finals with close friends from 1977 – 1989, and were thrilled to join her alma mater, Northwestern, at the Rose Bowl in 1996. She also loved to travel, and together with Bob she visited many countries with family or with the Northwestern Alumni Association. Well into her eighties, she even visited her son and daughter-in-law in Rome. An avid reader with an insatiable curiosity, Dorothy enjoyed her book club and was always eager to share her latest books with her family. Her bridge club was also a favorite activity.
She was a longtime member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Culver and donated her time at its local Thrift Shop. Most of all, it was the people surrounding Dorothy who were the focus of her life. She adored her many friends, but above all else, she dearly loved her family and selflessly showed that love to them every day. She will be forever missed.
Dorothy is survived by her sons: Robert (Dianne) Osborn and Daniel (Brenda) Osborn of Culver; William (Cathy) Osborn of Winnetka,Ill; Thomas (Judi Aubel) Osborn of Rome, Italy; seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Robert; brothers Frank, Lawrence and Jack Anderson; and sisters Edyth Gunther and Marie Axline.
Friends are invited to join the family in celebrating Dorothy’s life on Saturday, April 16, 2016 at 2:30 pm EST at the Culver Academies Memorial Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Wesley United Methodist Church, 511 School Street, Culver IN 46511.
