Theodore E. Thurin
Theodore E. Thurin, 90, of Plymouth and formerly of the Culver Community, died at 2:42 a.m. April 3, 2016, at Miller’s Merry Manor of Plymouth.
He was born on May 13, 1925 in Chicago, Ill. to Theodore B. Thurin and Lucille (Little) Thurin. Theodore moved to the Culver community in 1948 coming from Chicago, and had lived on his farm in California Township in Starke County until 1961. Then he moved to the present farm in Culver, Indiana. On June 29, 1946 in Lyons, Ill. he married Dorothy E. Polk. In June they would have celebrated their 70th anniversary.
Theodore was a Farmer and had also worked for Allis-Chalmers Corporation and NIPSCO, both of LaPorte. He was a member of Saint Mary’s of the Lake Catholic Church, Culver and a member of the Finney-Shilling VFW Post #6919, Culver. He was a former member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Culver. Theodore served in the United States Marine Corps during WWII from August 2, 1943 to December 15, 1945 when he received an Honorable Discharge at Great Lakes, Ill. Theodore saw action at Guam, Marianas Islands, Iwo Jima, and Volcano Islands during his service.
Theodore is survived by his wife: Dorothy Thurin of Plymouth; a daughter Linda J. Redinger and husband Charles of Argos; his grandchildren: Rose Dodson and husband Dean of Walkerton; Charles Redinger and wife Kelly of Plymouth; Ted Redinger and wife Jenny of Argos; and Bill Redinger and wife Alicia of Elkhart; and nine great-grandchildren
He is preceded in death by his parents, and great granddaughter: Emma Redinger.
Friends may visit with the family from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday April 6, at Saint Mary’s of the Lake Catholic Church, 605 N. Plymouth St., Culver. A Christian Burial Mass Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday April 6 at the church with Rev. Father Jeffery Largent of Saint Mary’s of the Lake, Culver. Burial will follow at Saint Anne’s Catholic Cemetery in Monterey, with the United States Marine Corps honor Guard and the Finney-Shilling VFW Post #6919, Culver.
