WARSAW — Did you know that April 11-16, is National Library Week? This is the time of year designated to celebrating your local library, and the Warsaw Community Public Library is planning a celebration of epic proportions. Throughout the week, there will be contests, activities, giveaways, special programs, and more.
WCPL is planning to have seven activity booths, or “makerspaces” set up all week that will focus on different aspects of library fun and learning. These will include: a Library Informational booth to learn more about the programs and services offered by WCPL; a Coloring Activity booth that will have free coloring pages for both children and adults as well as space to create them; a Family Tree Maker space that will encourage the use of library ancestry resources to help create a family tree; a Poetry Corner where anyone can write and share their poetry; a Children’s Bookmark Creation Station for kids to make beautiful bookmarks; a Butterfly Craft Corner to create a cute and easy project; and a Nature space where the library will be giving away free white pine trees. Plus free popcorn every day between 2–4 p.m.
Besides all these activities, the library will also be hosting five different contests throughout the week. Check the library Facebook page during the week to share your favorite book and enter a drawing. There will also be an online scavenger hunt of the library website as well as a scavenger hunt inside the library. Participants will need to find answers to 15 questions in order to be entered into a drawing for a Kindle Fire.
The circulation desk will be having a movie quote match-up contest, so if you think you know your movie quotes, try playing this game to enter to win a big prize. Besides all these, Children’s Services will be running a Beverly Cleary contest for kids. If you shop at the library book sale Friday, April 15, you can also turn in your receipt stub to be entered into a drawing for a movie gift basket. So many contests, you won’t want to miss any of them.
Make sure you also check out our special programs that week including: Planning Your Spring Garden happening April 12, Make it Take it Crafts: Book Clock happening April 13, and a Movie Day showing “The Secret Garden” April 14.
Come celebrate libraries. See you there.
