Park Foundation Approves Tree Removal
SYRACUSE — Syracuse Park Foundation Board approved a quote from Patriot Tree Services LLC of Goshen for $3,500 to remove dead and dying trees along the creek behind the Harold Schrock Athletic Complex during its regular monthly meeting Tuesday, March 22. Chad Jonsson, park superintendent, explained many of these trees are ash trees.
There are trees in decent shape and those will be allowed to remain.
The board also approved a quote from Mid-America for fence caps for the ball fields. Board member Amy Rensberger asked if the quotes provide included installation. Jonsson said no, he hopes to get coaches to help with the installation.
Dr. Tom Edington reported the Syracuse-Wawasee Trail Committee hopes to have the final design for the crossing at Dairy Queen completed this week. The committee hopes to have the crossing completed yet this year.
Work continues on widening the Eli Lily Trail. Edington said it is dependent on addressing drainage issues. The Conklin Bay trail will be the next project for the committee to get rolling in the next few months.
It was also noted in the financial report the trail committee received $60,250 in donations last month. Several donations were designated for the Eli Lily widening.
