Secrest Named Junior All-Star
INDIANAPOLIS – Another honor has been bestowed upon Tippecanoe Valley junior hoopster Anne Secrest. Wednesday afternoon Secrest was named to the Indianapolis Star Junior All-Stars team.
Among the 18 players selected, Secrest was listed among the North Group, with included South Bend St. Joseph’s Nicole Konieczny and Daly Sullivan, Hamilton Southeastern’s Bre Lloyd, Covenant Christian (Indianapolis) Rachel McLimore and Homestead’s Madisen Parker.
The junior team will play two games June 7 and 9 against the Indy Star’s Indiana All-Star senior girls. The sites for the games have not yet been announced. The Indiana senior All-Stars will play the Kentucky senior All-Stars June 11 at Banker’s Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. The juniors will not play Kentucky this year.
The All-Star teams are chosen from a panel of 22 members of the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association.
Secrest had another fantastic season for the Tippecanoe Valley Lady Vikings. Secrest averaged 16.7 points-per-game to go with 8.2 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 2.3 steals and 1.8 blocks per contest. Secrest helped Valley to its second-straight Three Rivers Conference and sectional championships, and the squad tied last year’s team record of 25 wins in a season.
Secrest, who verbally committed to Youngstown State University before the start of last season, was named the Ink Free News girls basketball Player of the Year for the second straight season this past February.
“What a great honor for her, and a stepping stone for the Indiana All-Star team for next year,” said Tippecanoe Valley head coach Chris Kindig.
The Core Group for the Junior All-Stars includes Riley Blackwell of Plainfield, Dana Evans of Gary West, Maliah Howard-Bass of Columbus North, Karissa McLaughlin of Homestead, Zion Sanders of Evansville Central and Madison Wise of Greenfield-Central.
The South Group for the Junior All-Stars includes Kayla Casteel of Plainfield, Imani Guy and Ashlyn Huffman of Columbus North, Katie Helgason of Greenfield-Central, Alexis Thomas of Evansville Central and Macee Williams of Fountain Central.
The coaches for the all-star teams have not been announced.
