Wawasee, Warsaw Gym Teams Earn Wins
Both gymnastics teams from Wawasee and Warsaw picked up road team wins Thursday night. Wawasee took down another quality opponent, beating Huntington North 103.25-102.075 while Warsaw went to West Noble and came away with a 95.425-85.00 victory.
At Huntington
Wawasee’s efforts on the bars made the difference at the regional site to which the Warriors would compete if able to get through the sectional next weekend. An 8.425 from Reagan Atwood, 8.0 from Jada Parzygnot and 7.85 from Alyssa Minnix gave Wawasee a 24.275, which bested Huntington’s 22.825. Otherwise, the two teams were almost dead even in the other three disciplines.
Wawasee was .25 better on vault, led by Atwood’s 8.75, Huntington was .15 better on beam led by Carly Snyder’s 9.075, and the hosts scored .375 higher on floor, paced by Snyder’s 9.55.
Parzygnot had the top Wawasee beam score at 8.925 and Atwood was right there on floor at 9.5.
Snyder had the top all around score at 35.45 with Atwood at 35.4, Parzygnot at 34.75 and Minnix at 32.65.
“We like having the opportunity to compete on the equipment at Huntington North since it is the site our our regional championships,” said Wawasee head coach Nika Prather. “Going into this meet, I think we were evenly matched. Their scores have averaged around 101, which is close to our average. The final scores proved it.”
Wawasee will next compete at home next Wednesday against Plymouth.
At West Noble
While not the big numbers it posted Tuesday night, Warsaw still put together a solid scoreline against the Chargers.
Remi Beckham of Warsaw posted the top score in all four disciplines, leading on vault (8.65), bars (7.65), beam (9.0) and floor (8.875), scoring 34.175 in all-around figures.
Hayley Campbell gave Warsaw a second-place score on vault at 8.35, and Anna Wainscott had a 7.075 on bars, good for second in the meet.
The Tigers scored its second-highest team point total of the season Thursday, only short of the 98.25 it posted at home Tuesday against Lakeland.
Warsaw’s final meet of the regular season will happen next Wednesday at Huntington North.
