Syracuse Town Hall Eyeing New Sidewalk
SYRACUSE — During the Syracuse Town Council meeting Tuesday evening, Feb. 16, Town Manager Henry DeJulia stated they are considering cutting back the sidewalk directly outside of town hall by 18 inches.
Currently the sidewalk has cracks and is popping up; something, DeJulia stated, that can’t be fixed. By cutting it back and redoing the asphalt in the lane/parking lot, he noted they would also make it easier for larger vehicles to park. Funding for the project would come partially from the concrete fund and the asphalt/paving fund.
The council gave their blessing for him to continue looking into the project.
DeJulia reported they are addressing blighted buildings as well. Currently, the unsafe building fund has $10,000; however, DeJulia noted at the next meeting he will be asking for an additional appropriation to demolish at least one building.
“We are getting sealed bids now (for the project),” DeJulia said. “March 14 is when we open those bids.”
He added March 1 is the last day for bids on Syracuse’s comprehensive plan; something, DeJulia said, they’d like to get started soon.

- Syracuse Municipal Building Corporation met briefly at 6:30 p.m. before the council meeting. The bond for the Syracuse Community Center is on schedule to be paid off by 2021. Council members asked Park Superintendent Chad Jonsson to look at refinancing the bond to capture lower interest rates, if applicable.
- The police department’s new Dodge patrol car should be shipped this week, and an outfitter will then get needed equipment installed. DeJulia’s new Jeep is still waiting for a billing date and then shipping date.
- The majority of the town’s light-up snowflakes have been taken down; a few, however, remain up in the parks.
- Jonsson asked people to mark their calendars for the Cabin Fever Indoor Garage Sale, March 5; the middle school egg hunt, March 11; and the egg hunt for children up to fifth grade, March 19.
