WARSAW — With Valentine’s Day quickly approaching, love is in the air in Kosciusko County. Though the holiday is traditionally reserved for couples and romance, the Animal Welfare League of Kosciusko County is hoping couples can open up their hearts for some furry kisses and cuddles.

This weekend, the shelter will host an adoption event with Petsmart, Warsaw, aiming to adopt 20 cats and dogs in time for the Valentine’s day holiday. In order to reach the shelter’s goal, Director Darla McCammon notes she will be offering adoption discounts to those visiting Petsmart during the holiday weekend.

Although adopters will receive the affections of their pet, thanks to the AWL, they will also receive big savings in terms of prospective vet bills. All animals adopted with the shelter have been spayed/neutered, have had their shots and are microchipped in case they wander off. In addition, the shelter offers to pay the first vet visit for the adopted pet.

If you are in a loving mood and cannot wait to meet a new fur friend, the shelter is also offering the ability to check in on a “pet of the week.” Now offering a camera inside a certain pet’s cage. guests to the AWL website can watch a live cam feed from inside the shelter.

Like the season, Summer is warm and gentle. The 9-year-old labrador retriever is sweet, happy and a very obedient girl. Though she may not be a “spring puppy” Summer is still full of life and love and is looking for a family to call her own. Summer knows how to “sit” and “shake” and will happily show you her tricks when you visit. She was brought in with her two best friends, Brittney and Teddi Bear, who have both found homes of their own.

With a freckle on her nose and a personality that, like her name implies, is both bold and warm, Java is a kitten ready to find a family of her own. This little tuxedo colored lady relishes adventure and fun at every turn, enjoying to climb and play whenever the opportunity is presented. Though she has a heart for adventure, Java’s warmth shines with her siblings, whom she is fond of looking after.
