Phyllis Irene Rowland
Phyllis Irene Rowland, a lifetime resident of the Claypool, area passed away at 10:58 p.m. Friday, Jan. 22, 2016, in Miller’s Merry Manor, Warsaw. She was 93.
Phyllis was born to Tony and Opal (Rodocker) Hoover May 26, 1922 in Claypool. She was a 1940 graduate of Claypool High School.
Also in Claypool in the following year on May 19, 1941, she and Emery Franklin Rowland were joined in marriage. She was a homemaker and a helpmate to her husband on their Claypool farm. They would share 69 years together until his passing August 28, 2010.
Phyllis was a member of Claypool United Methodist Church for over 60 years. She taught Sunday School for many years and was a member of the Ladies Aid Society.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law: Dennis (Pam) Rowland; Roger (Sandy) Rowland, all of Claypool; one daughter: Avis Wilkinson, Goshen; seven grandchildren and their spouses: Brian Wilkinson, Syracuse; Travis (Jenny) Rowland, Claypool; Missy (Vince) Wynn, Goshen; Darren (Karena) Wilkinson, Milford; Greg (Kassi) Rowland, Clunette; Tina (Scott) Maurer, Goshen; Amy Slone, Claypool; all along with 18 great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Phyllis was preceded in death by her sister: E. Maxine Marks, April 22, 1988; and son-in-law: Carl E. ‘Hub’ Wilkinson, on May 10, 2011.
Friends and family will come together for a time of sharing as they console each other from 3-6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 26, at Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw.. A service to celebrate Phyllis’ life will take place at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 25, in the funeral home. Pastor Mike Settles of Claypool United Methodist Church will officiate.
The family has requested that gifts in memory of Phyllis be directed to Claypool United Methodist Church, Claypool.
