Senior Pastor Of Historic Church To Speak At IPFW
FORT WAYNE — Rev. Dr. Raphael G. Warnock will speak at IPFW to commemorate Martin Luther King Jr. Day at 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 25, in the Walb Student Union International Ballroom.
Warnock has been senior pastor of the historic Ebenezer Baptist Church, Atlanta, Ga., since 2005 and is successor to King, who pastored the church from 1960 until his death.
“Raphael Gamaliel Warnock is a preeminent scholar and national leader whose voice resonates, empowers and informs a broad constituency from all over this country,” said Ken Christmon, associate vice chancellor for diversity and multicultural affairs. “The opportunity to have such a powerful speaker who is directly connected to the legacy of Dr. King speaks volumes about the commitment to diversity here at IPFW.”
Warnock graduated cum laude from Morehouse College in 1991, receiving a bachelor of arts degree in psychology. He also holds a master of divinity from Union Theological Seminary, New York City, N.Y., from which he graduated with honors and distinctions.
Seeing his pastoral work as tied to the ministry of scholarship and the life of the mind, Warnock continued his graduate studies at Union, receiving a master of philosophy and a doctor of philosophy in the field of systematic theology. He is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., the 100 Black Men of Atlanta Inc. and a Lifetime Member of the NAACP.
Warnock has been listed as one of “30 Leaders of the Future” by “Ebony” magazine, one of “20 to Watch” by “The African American Pulpitjournal” and one of the “Top 25 Pastors in Metropolitan Atlanta” by “Concerned Black Clergy.”
