Virginia M. Stockton
Virginia M. Stockton, 87, North Manchester, died at 5:53 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2016 in Peabody Retirement Community, North Manchester.
She was born Feb. 14, 1928, in Logansport, to Howard & Alice (Moss) Johnson. She graduated from Logansport High School in 1946. She then attended Manchester College for two years.
She married Roger L. Ingold on June 22, 1947. She then married Richard Stockton on April 18, 1997. He died April 3, 2003.
She and her husband moved to Akron, Ohio, where she taught English in the Akron Community Schools for five years. In 1960 the family moved to the mission field in Nigeria where she taught English and was secretary at the mission office. In 1975 they moved to Elgin, Ill., and continued work at the Church of the Brethren headquarters. She retired and moved to Fort Myers, Fla., in 1990. She was an avid reader and walker.
She is survived by two sons: John (Gay) Ingold, North Manchester; and David (Rose) Ingold, Graff, Missouri; two granddaughters: Allison (Lawrence) Wise, Milwaukee, Wic., and Courtney (Joseph) Belt, Granite Falls, N.C.; and two great-grandchildren.
One brother and one sister are deceased.
Family and friends may call from noon-2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 18, at Peabody Chapel, 400 W. Seventh St., North Manchester. Services will follow at 2 p.m. Pastor Sue Babovec and Pastor Susan Beamer will officiate.
