Man Dies Fleeing Police
The body of Raymond Lee Cassidy, 35, was located by fire personal at 9:25 p.m. in the water.
According to a press release issued by the Noble County Sheriff’s office, at 7:20 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 7, officers with the Noble County Sheriff’s Department attempted to serve an arrest warrant on Cassidy at 7298 N. 525W, Wawaka. Officers knocked on the door and Cassidy fled his residence, running past officers. He ran toward the Little Elkhart River, which is near his residence.
Officers, who pursued Cassidy, broke through the ice and stopped their pursuit, losing contact with him. EMS and fire departments from Ligonier, Orange Township and Albion were immediately required to the scene.
Cassidy had outstanding warrants for dealing in methamphetamine, a level 4 felony; neglect of a dependent, a level 6 felony; and visiting a common nuisance, a class B misdemeanor.
